F-liiga semi-finals: player suspended, coach sacked

Both SB-Pro and PSS took a 2-1 lead in F-liiga semi-finals for women as SB-Pro beat Classic 8-1 at home and PSS were victorious away on Oulu with 6-1.

Yet, the talk of the week bubbled beyond scores as SSRA had sacked their head coach Petri Turunen in the middle of the semi-final series. In their press release SSRA mentioned disputes between the team and the coach about playing and training. In an interview by Pääkallo.fi, Petri Turunen descibed his reaction as “surprised” and “disappointed” admitting there had been previous critival discussions during the season.

Another hot topic was SB-Pro defender Anu Raatevaara’s one-game suspension after a dangerous collision with Classic forward Kristiina Kauppila. Midfield, returning towards own goal, Raatevaara collided with Kauppila from behind with Kauppila getting injured and being assissted from the rink in obvious pain. The F-liiga disciplinary authority handed Raatevaara a one-game suspension saying she could and should have played the situation more safely.
