World Champion Kosonen joins Steelers

Major transfer in F-Liiga as World Champion goalie Eero Kosonen joins Steelers Hämeenlinna on a one-year contract. Last season, the 33-year old played for SPV.

Eero Kosonen had offers from several clubs from both Finland and Sweden. Steelers, though, were the one with the most suitable package for him.
“I start every season with my goal in the play offs. We’ll specify that as I get to join the team but I see no reason why we should aim for anything else”, Eero Kosonen says.

Steelers’ head coach Tommi Ojala is as pleased as one can imagine.
“Naturally this is something big as we don’t have that many World Champions in our team. “Eepi” brings us a load of experience on top level games and winning which will help the whole team to take its next steps forward”.

Two-time World Champion Eero Kosonen also has two WFC silver medals and one bronze. In Salibandyliiga (now F-Liiga) his saves led Happee to the Finnish title in 2014. His previous elite clubs include NST, Happee and SPV in FInland and Växjö Vipers in Sweden.

In Hämeenlinna, Eero Kosonen may look forward to lots of shots as Steelers finished 13th in the 14-team league last season. They were destined to play for their spot in F-Liiga in a playout series against Welhot but the abrupt end for the season byt the COVID-19 pandemic kept both teams in the league.
